Palmerston Trade Furniture Stages

4 th Feb 2006

GMC-MOTORSPORT'S first round of the Scottish Tarmac Rally Championship didn't get off to the start we had planned!.

Stages 1&2 were particularly slippery due to the dampness which had came down overnight, however, even with these tricky conditions we managed to set class leading stage times. Even with our high starting seeding of No16, we managed to catch and pass two cars on these early stages.

Stage 3 started well, but nearing the end we had a minor bump with a Subaru Impreza Turbo as both cars were funnelled into a hairpin bend. This resulted in a glancing blow on the nearside front wheel causing damage to the gearbox as the shock was transmitted through the driveshaft

We managed to drive the car to the end of the stage but retired and put the car on the trailer and headed home.

Until that moment we were sitting 1st in class and an amazing 10th overall!

We have already stripped the car and removed the gearbox, to assess the damage. Fortunately it's less serious than first thought and only the Crown wheel and Pinion gear require replacing. Had the entire Gearbox suffered damage, the team could easily been looking at a repair bill in excess of Ł2000 !!!

The replacement parts should arrive later on this week and hopefully the car will be running again later this week. The second round of the Scottish Tarmac Rally Championship is at Crail Airfield on the 4th of March.

We will be back with an update nearer the end of February prior to the event at Crail
